The Company at EDA serves as an opportunity for dancers to perform more frequently throughout the school year at various competitions. Currently, the Company will perform in three regional competitions and a potential national dance competition each dance season. The primary mission of Company participation is for students to learn skills in dance, performance, competition, and sportsmanship. Our focus is on personal and team progress, not just winning!
For many young dancers, the only way to truly dance at full potential is by raising the stakes. EDA believes that competing is a great way to not only have fun, but to create a goal worth working for. Competition participation at EDA is a tool we use to push dancers to their full potential individually and as a group. It is a way to push them to improve their technical and artistic ability.
Each company will perform one or two group routines at every competition and every child is given the opportunity to perform a solo. In addition to dance competitions, company members may be invited to perform at other local events to enhance pre-professional training.
Company Class Requirements
The Company class co-requisites differ by age. These requirements are detailed in this document. In addition to the required classes, company students are encouraged to take additional classes offered to their age level because a well-rounded dancer is more likely to succeed competitively and professionally. There may also be a series of Saturday workshop classes throughout the year required for company members.
Attendance is extremely important in the Company classes. Missing class means missing choreography and it makes it quite difficult to make progress when students are missing. If absence is necessary, ample notice is appreciated.
