Lindsey McGovern

Lindsey graduated from Salem State University with a major in dance in 2015 as a Commonwealth Honors scholar and a member of the National Dance Education Organization Honor Society. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Theatre & Dance Teaching Artistry from Wayne State University. Lindsey began her dance training at J&D Dance Academy in Reading under Deanna Carpinterri before going on to learn from Meghan McLyman, Caitlin Corbett, Sarah Swift, Nicole Pierce, and James Morrow at Salem State University. She has taken part in workshops and residencies from companies/programs such as Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre, American College Dance Association, Dance Teachers’ Club of Boston, Jen Pollins, Peter Dimuro, and Mariah Maloney.  She has formal dance training and education in ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, musical theatre, lyrical, modern, contemporary, hip hop, composition, improvisation, pedagogy, dance production, dance theory/style, anatomy, and dance history. 
Lindsey choreographs and performs modern dance both independently and with Vitality Dance Project. Recent performance credits include: Salem Arts Festival Tiny Dances (June 2022), Salem State University Faculty & Guest Artist Concert (September 2021), Salem Arts Festival (June 2021), Mass Poetry Festival (May 2021), NACHMO Boston (February 2021), NACHMO Boston (February 2020), Vitality Dance Project's Emergence (February 2020), Kaleidoscope Dance Company's Prismatic (August 2019), Reading 375 Concert (June 2019), Salem Arts Festival (June 2018-19), Across The Ages Dance Project: Lineage (June 2019), Salem State University Alumni Concert (November 2018 & February 2017), Beverly Arts Festival (June 2018), Anthony Williams’ Urban Nutcracker (2012).

Lindsey has been teaching dance and theatre since 2011 and continues to work for Five Star Theatre Program (Reading, MA), Venturing Theatricals (Reading, MA) and in the Reading Public Schools doing musical theatre choreography. Recent musical theatre choreography credits include Colonial Chorus Players' Guys & Dolls, Venturing Studios' productions of The Drowsy Chaperone , The Addams Family, Anything Goes, Frozen Jr., & Shrek; Coolidge Middle School productions of Seussical, Anne of Green Gables, Alice in Wonderland Jr, Beauty & The Beast Jr., Honk Jr., Freaky Friday, Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr., and High School Musical.
In addition to performance and composition work, Lindsey has completed various research endeavors in dance; she presented a well-received written work entitled “Eating Disorders in the Ballet Dance Community” at American College Dance Association’s 2014 New England conference and presented her honors thesis in dance, “The Sociology of Miley Cyrus” (a written work and dance performance) at the Salem State University 2015 Undergraduate Research Symposium. Lindsey continues to research and write about body image issues in dance and the importance of practicing body neutrality as a dancer and educator.
